Tournaments

Measuring a tuna

We are proud to partner with a wide range of fishing tournaments, including those targeting trout and redfish inshore, sharks, and even bluewater species like billfish. Because many tournaments happen annually, the data collected during these events can help to monitor a variety of trends in the fishery. For example, we can determine if the average size of species being landed has changed over time, especially for long-standing tournaments. For tournaments bringing fish back to the dock, we have the opportunity to sample tissue for age, growth, genetic, food web, and contaminant analyses. Catch and release tournaments also offer opportunities for anglers to get involved in our cooperative tagging program. From these data, we can explore movement patterns, growth, habitat use, and more.
